Convert PNG to JPG

Converting PNG to JPG trades lossless storage for a much smaller file: photos often shrink by 80 percent or more, and at the default quality of 85 the difference is not visible on screen. Upload your PNG files above, choose the quality and download the JPG outputs.

The one thing to decide before converting is transparency, because JPG cannot carry it. The next section explains exactly what happens.

What happens to the transparent background?

JPG has no transparency channel, so transparent areas must be filled with a solid color. In this tool you pick that color yourself with the background option; the default is white, which matches most web pages.

If the image needs to keep its transparency, do not convert to JPG: choose PNG or WebP as the output instead. WebP keeps transparency and still shrinks the file.

When is PNG to JPG the right move?

Whenever the image is really a photo that happened to be saved as PNG. Screenshots of photos, camera exports and images downloaded from the web often sit in PNG for no reason and weigh several times more than they should.

The opposite is true for graphics: logos, icons and screenshots with sharp text look worse as JPG, because lossy compression smudges hard edges. Keep those as PNG or move them to WebP.

A quick self-check helps: if you would happily send the image as a photo attachment, it belongs in JPG. If you would zoom in to read the text in it or place it over another background, it belongs in PNG or WebP. Most of the time the answer is obvious the moment you ask the question.

How to convert PNG to JPG

  • Upload your PNG files; up to 20 files per request, each up to 100 MB.
  • Keep the output format as JPG.
  • Set the quality; 85 is balanced for most photos.
  • Pick the background color that transparent areas will be filled with.
  • Start the conversion and download the JPG files one by one or as a ZIP.

How much smaller does the file get?

For a typical photo stored as PNG, the JPG output at quality 85 is often five to ten times smaller. The exact saving depends on the content: soft photos compress best, flat graphics compress least.

The result card shows the original and the new size for every file, so you can see the saving before you download.

Will I lose quality converting PNG to JPG?

JPG is lossy, so a little detail is discarded. At the default quality of 85 the loss is invisible on photos; text and sharp graphics can soften, so keep those as PNG or WebP.

What color fills the transparent areas?

The one you choose in the background option; the default is white. Pick the color that matches where the image will be shown.

Can I convert a batch of PNG files together?

Yes, up to 20 files per request, all converted with the same settings and downloadable as a single ZIP.
