Frequently asked questions
Which formats can I upload?
JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, HEIC and AVIF files are accepted, up to 100 MB each. As output you can choose JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF. An animated GIF is converted as its first frame.
Why is my PNG output larger than the JPG I uploaded?
PNG is lossless: it stores every pixel exactly instead of discarding detail the way JPG does. Photos contain very little repetition, so lossless storage stays large. For photos, JPG, WebP or AVIF is the smaller choice.
Does converting to PNG add a transparent background?
No. Transparency cannot be created from a JPG, because the JPG never contained it. The PNG output is fully opaque; making a background transparent is a different job that needs an editor.
What quality value should I pick?
The default 85 is balanced for most photos. For website images 75-85 works well; for archiving choose 90 or above. Below 60, flat areas start to show visible artifacts.
What happens to the images I upload?
Your uploads are read only to run the conversion and for nothing else. The full data handling and storage terms live on the privacy page.
